Using Facial Recognition for more than suspect identification

by AFR Engine

When you think of Facial Recognition, the first thing that pops into your head is catching criminals. What if you were able to reunite lost loved ones with their families using nothing but their photo? It’s certainly possible. The Irvine Police Department has a program called the Return Home Registry. Members of the community are able to register their family members in the system by providing their emergency contact information, their descriptors, and a high quality digital photo.

This information is kept on file in the event the loved one goes missing. The majority of those registered into the program suffer from Alzheimers and Dementia and have wandered off once before. Often times law enforcement will encounter the missing people who have no identification, emergency medical bracelets, and who are unable to identify themselves and where they live.

Enter AFR Engine’s facial recognition system. The Police Officer would be able to snap a photo of the missing person and enter it into the system. Within seconds the Officer will be presented with possible matches based on the person’s facial features. Since the Officer will be using a high quality digital photo, the match rate will be extremely high. If the missing person has been registered into the Return Home Registry, it will match to the photo that was taken when they were registered into the program. Instead of spending hours caring for the individual while trying to identify them, they can re-unite the person with their loved ones in only minutes.

If your Police Department maintains a registry like the Return Home Registry, your photos can be utilized to provide your community with the same level of service. Contact Us for more information on how the AFR Engine can help your department.
